New York's Movie Festivals




The Tribeca Film Festival

This festival was created in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert DeNiro and Craig Hatkoff. It was first created because of the loss of vitality and entertainment after the September 11, 2001 attacks in TriBeCa, situated in Lower Manhattan


As the founders of the festival syas, the mission of it is "to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience". This festival shows that NYC is a major movie center.

In 2006 and 2001 there were 8600 submitted movies and 1500 screenings. Three million people now participates to the TriBeCa festival and more and more celebrities working in art, music and films from all around the world. This festival generates 600 million dollars per year.
The interestin thing about this festival is that it welcomes and shows movies from many foreign countries such as France, Germany, Italy ... 







The New York Film Festival

The New York Film Festival is one of the most imprtant movie festival. The first edition was in 1963, in New York. It was created by Amos Vogel and Richard Roud. It is also known as NYFF.
The Festival takes place every year in Lincoln Center, in New York.

Like the TriBeCa Film Festival, the NYFF welcomes movie from all around the world. At this festival you can watch movies from Spain, Poland, Russia, China, Israel. It is a huge opportunity for the movie industries in this country.

Since 1963, the NYFF has continued to bring new and interesting movie works by directors and filmmakers from all over the world. It is produces by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. It is also very competitive with about 28 feature film and 12 short films every year. The particularity of this festival is that no prizes are given.



The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival

Also known as the NYIIFVF.

This festival is one of the largest independent film festival in the world. It was founded in 1993. It is recognises as one of the leading film events on the independent festival circuit. 

It attracts many global entries, inclunding entries from Australia, Brazil, Sweden, Kenya, Israel, France ... The New York Independent Film and Video Festival, was created to help emerging filmmakers and screenwriters. It is considered as the voice for independent film, and it is a festival that interest major media, which represents a real opportunity for american and foreign emerging filmmakers.
